I / W / B / W Assignment

The internet is a creation that revolutionized the world. It quite literally changed the trajectory of all of humankind. With a creation like this it is no wonder that people cannot seem to agree on who or what created it. To understand that question, the internet itself must be understood. The internet is a network of globally connected electronic devices ranging from computers, cell phones, gaming systems, smart devices, refrigerators, cars, etc. The prototype of the internet was ARPANET (Advanced Research Projects Agency Network), but that idea came to fruition by J. C. R. Licklider. The U.S. Department of Defense originally funded the project back in October of 1969.

The internet was first to be used for transferring data quickly via electronics but was tweaked more in the 1970s by Vinton Cerf and Robert Kahn. They made it possible for the internet to now transfer data between a numerous number of networks which is what it is used for today. The World Wide Web differs from the internet, however. The way their functions differ is due to the accessing portion of data. The modern website is the cornerstone of the World Wide Web.

The World Wide Web is the acquisition of data through links and sites. Tim Berners-Lee can be credited for the creation of the World Wide Web in January 1983. The reason it was created was because a group of the researchers wanted a "network of networks" and that is what the web is today. Both of these advances are very significant and similar to one another, but where the World Wide Web is about accessing information, the internet is about sending that information. In that regard, the two systems must work side by side, with the web being ultimately more popular.

The first website ever created was made by Lee on August 6, 1991. The website still surprisingly exists to this day (The World Wide Web project (cern.ch)). The website is obviously very basic, but it gives information on what the web is and how to access information from it.

Bluetooth is another aspect of the internet most take for granted. The purpose of Bluetooth is to connect all close proximity technology without the need for wires. A big part of its creation was to help save battery usage because the data amount being sent was very small. The creator of Bluetooth is Jaap Harrtsen, but it can be said that a whole team from Ericsson helped invent it in 1994. Surprisingly enough, the team at Ericsson did not decide the name "Bluetooth."

The name Bluetooth was thought up by Jim Kardach at Intel. He named it after the 10th century king of Denmark and Norway. The logo is actually inspired by that king as well. Harlad "Bluetooth" Gormsson's initials are what composes the logo. The runes are ᚼ and ᛒ which combined make the Bluetooth logo.

Wi-Fi is not too different from Bluetooth. The creator of Wi-Fi, John O' Sullivan, cannot be given all the credit at all. There were many people with the idea to connect people before him. The first person to come up with the idea was Vic Hayes, although Sullivan was the one who implemented it. Wi-Fi is short for "wireless fidelity" and the way it works is that it allows systems all over the world to connect via wireless signal. Wi-Fi was fully realized in 1997. The original name for Wi-Fi is WLAN also known as Wireless Local Area Network.

Hedy Lamarr was an actress and an inventor from Austria, and she has a strange connection to both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. It can be said that she pioneered the way for all of the inventors previously stated in these paragraphs. The filed some patents back in 1941 about "frequency-hopping technology." There were many things she had predicted like Bluetooth, GPS, Wi-Fi, and more. Johnny Depp and Jeff Beck have a song about Lamarr because Depp relates to her looks. They are both more famous for their looks, rather than their passion for arts or intelligence.
